When I first came across the term digital transformation, I assumed it meant using technology in the workplace. I hadn’t considered the impact that digitisation is having in the business world. We all use a computer; I thought this was enough. I didn’t understand what this term really meant and the impact it is having.

Global businesses are moving from blockchain research to applying the technology to current business challenges. Many believe that this change will be taking place in the next 12 months. Linda Pawczuk, a principal with Deloitte Consulting, commented business ambition was shifting from “a focus on blockchain tourism and exploring the technology’s potential, to building practical applications”.

Hammond has promised the availability of fibre-to-the-premesis fibre broadband connections to 15 million homes in the UK by 2025. In addition, he is committed to delivering a nationwide full-fibre network to UK homes by 2033.

Predictive Policing

The UK police are using technology and copious amounts of data to predict crime. Thousands of anonymised reports of previous offences allow police to be deployed where crime is predicted to occur over the next 24 hours. The time and place of previous criminal activity helps to determine future offences. Kent Police are at the forefront of this with their system PredPol.

GDPR Enforcement

This is the fourth and final glossary in the GDPR series. This glossary seeks to explain the roles and changes a company needs to introduce to be GDPR compliant following GDPR Enforcement. I felt there was a large introduction of roles necessary for company’s compliance which were not explained, and I did not understand.

There is a lot of legal jargon which is actually very simple in terms of data protection.
